Allegany Township is a township in Potter County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 402 at the 2000 census. Allegany Township is unusual in that it uses a variant spelling of the word Allegheny more commonly associated with the state of New York in its name. Other entities in Pennsylvania use the "Allegheny" spelling. ==Geography== According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which, of it is land and of it (0.05%) is water. Allegany Township is bordered by Genesee Township to the north, Ulysses Township to the east, Sweden Township to the south and Hebron Township to the west. Cobb Hill, located in this township, is part of the St. Lawrence River Divide. Its north slope is the headwaters of the West Branch of the Genesee River while the south slope contains the headwaters of the Allegheny River. West-northwest of Cobb Hill is Rose Lake, which through the first half of the 20th century fed tributaries of both rivers, and therefore drained into both the Atlantic Ocean (via the St. Lawrence River) and the Gulf of Mexico.
